Recent Posts

On July 18, 2010, more than 80 members of New Orleans' tech community gathered with local educators to create Closingthenolagap.org. The techies were participating in the community project portion of BarCamp NOLA 2010, a two-day event of presentations, socializing and learning.

Local organizer Matt Candler expressed a need to create a rallying issue for New Orleans educators and a way for them to network and share ideas. He described the New Orleans achievement gap, pointed to its optimistic trends since 2005, and voiced the goal of closing this gap completely.

While we are proud of the progress that students are making, we realize that passing 4th grade is not the end goal of our work. We are committed to the process of getting kids ready for college. As we start to host community events later this year, we will share events and information here about great things happening in particular schools and classrooms. It is a great resource for city-wide information and insight into what working and what's left to do to close the gap in New Orleans.
